Hiram Ingersoll House
Prior to 1870 the site of this house was the occupied by a Dutch Colonial style vernacular wood frame building that served as the office of Dr. William North Duane, a physician who lived next door at No. 205. Purchased in 1870 by Hiram J. Ingersoll, who served as Sheriff of Schenectady County, the present house was constructed shortly thereafter.
The Hiram Ingersoll House is an example of an Italianate style urban house, with its projecting main wing containing the entry and an offset side wing. A two-story structure, the facades are constructed of brick laid in an American common bond pattern on a stone foundation. Windows and door openings are surmounted by pedimented lintels. The pair of curved top entry doors contains glazed and wood panels. The fascia of the cornice is ornamented with round-topped raised panels with small half-round balls centered at each, a detail shared with No. 201 next door.
