Charles A. Miller House
The Miller House is located on land that formerly was part of the Union College lot that extended from Union to Green Streets along the east side of College Street. Purchased from the Trustees of Union College in 1836 by Peter Banker, this property was identified as Lot No. 44 of lots laid out from a larger parcel that extended from Green St. south to College Alley and was bounded on the west by North College Street and on the east by the railroad tracks. Banker filed a subdivision map with Schenectady County and in 1837 sold Lot No. 44 to Isaac Van Kuren. In November 1845, Van Kuren sold the lot to E. Jane Yates. Yates sold the same lot but with a house in December 1847 to Charles A. Miller for $650.00, thus setting the likely construction date of the house to between November 1845 and December 1847.
The two story wood frame house features painted wood clapboard siding, and simplified detailing characteristic of late Federal styling in transition to the Greek Revival. The first floor window and door lintels appear to represent a renovation later in the 19th century.
