NICHOLAS VEEDER HOUSE
From the Assessment Roll of 1816 it appears that the property owners on the south side of Front Street, going east from Ferry Street, were John Veeder (104-106), Nicholas Vedder (108), Ezekiel Sexton (110) Timothy Capen (112, 114, 116) and Louis Barhydt (118-120). Ezekiel Sexton, who was the father of the famous painter, Samuel Sexton, bought the property at 110 in 1807. The purchase deed bounds the property on the west by the "lot” of Nicholas Vedder indicating that there was probably no house on the property at that time. In 1813, however, Nicholas Vedder mortgaged his "house and lot" on Front Street, suggesting that it had been built shortly before that time.
