Description
 ANDREW TRUAX HOUSE

A brick dated 1765 in the east wall of this house suggests the year when it was constructed. Certainly it could not have been much earlier, as the site, along with the sites of numerous nearby houses, was used for barracks during the Colonial wars when sizeable armies were operating in this area. Originally two stories in height, the house had a third story added in the 19th century. It has been said that it was then the first three- story brick dwelling in Schenectady but this statement has never been conclusively established. For many years it was the home of Andrew Truax.
