Description
JOHN P. TRUAX HOUSE

"Old John Truax,” a veteran of the Revolutionary War, lived in the house at this location at least as early as 1795. Presumably it was built a few years before that. Two additions were made at the rear at later dates, the first creating an L-shaped structure and the second restoring the rectangular form. The will of John Truax, dated 1817, left to his daughters "Angelica, Rachel and Eve, the house and lot in Ferry Street where I now live," and to his son John F. Truax "the store and lot now in his possession" lying immediately south of the house.
