General Jacob Swits House
Jacob Swits married in 1791 and purchased on May 2, 1792, the house at 19 Front Street from Nicholas van der Bogert at a price of 115 pounds. The exact date when the house was built is not known. The part to the east of the front door is newer than the rest of the house, which may date back to the middle pf the eighteenth century. Jacob Swits served as a soldier during the Revolution and later was made major general of militia. During the latter part of the nineteenth century, the front was rebuilt in the Victorian style.
